The judges were impressed by Advanced Cold-Formed Sections’ outstanding company culture and proactive approach to innovation.

Part of the Gloucester-based family business Metek, Advanced Cold-Formed Sections supplies recyclable light steel frames and stud / track for residential, hotel and student accommodation projects, as well as floor cassettes, zed purlins and cladding rails.

ACFS has grown into a £5m business since it was established in 2009, and aims to maximise its levels of factory prefabrication in a controlled and safe environment.

After relocating from Llanwern to Wolverhampton, the business now has facilities covering 3,000 sq m. The move has proved advantageous for the company, placing it in the heart of the roll-forming industry and helping it grow to 30 staff after bringing in an additional six new recruits.

ACFS showed the judges that it constantly aims to offer the highest standards of production and delivery.

One of its stand-out achievements in the past year was the successful manufacture and delivery of a light steel frame to Metek for the latter’s Pavilions project in north London. The scheme will see a total of 156 homes built and is due for completion by mid-2018.

The development’s position just 12 m above two High Speed 1 rail lines posed several engineering challenges, but the package was nevertheless installed ahead of programme for a delighted developer.

Judges praised ACFS for standing out from its competitors by having a clear understanding of and passion for its products, something that was evident in the Pavilions scheme.

The panel recognised the company’s commitment to supply chain safety and delivering an excellent service for its clients.

In particular, they were impressed by how ACFS underpinned its operations with innovation and digitalisation, reflected in the amount of time and money it has invested in this area.

ACFS has also earmarked substantial investment into staff wellbeing and training, scoring highly when it came to health and safety innovations that have helped ensure zero RIDDORs in its latest results.

With a strong focus on sustainability, the company offers clients support in addressing environmental issues on projects.

But above all, the judging panel was bowled over by the company’s dedication in its efforts to be the best, adding that ACFS “lives and breathes” the products and services it offers.
